SAW The Movies
SAW adalah film horor favorit saya sampai saat ini. Â Film ini merupakan film horor yang menurut saya adalah horor yang ‘mendidik’. Baik mendidik korban di dalam filemnya, maupun penonton yang menonton seri film horor ini. Alasan terbesar saya menyukai SAW dari seri pertama hingga yang terakhir dirilis akhir tahun lalu, adalah karena film ini adalah film horor yang sama sekali tak ada hantunya. Hahaha, tentu saja. Karena SAW bukan jenis horor yang mengangkat hantu dalam ceritanya. SAW adalah jenis film horor yang mengangkat ‘kesadisan’ sekaligus ‘mendidik’ dalam jalan ceritanya. Jika sedari tadi saya menggunakan kata ‘mendidik’ pada film SAW, maka akan saya jelaskan penyebabnya dengan menguraikan sedikit dari sejarah panjang film ini.
Jika menyebut film SAW, maka yang pasti teringat adalah tokoh utamanya yaitu The Jigsaw Killer atau JIGSAW yang nama aslinya adalah Jonathan Kramer. Jonathan Kramer is a “Mastermind Serial Killer” itulah yang saya kutip dari OfficialSaw.com Jigsaw sendiri adalah sebutan bagi John Kramer dari para polisi karena ia selalu meninggalkan tanda berupa potongan puzzle yang diambil dari kulit korban yang telah mati. Dalam filmnya, Jigsaw digambarkan terobsesi mengajarkan para korbannya bagaimana menghargai hidup mereka. Hal ini dilatar belakangi karena John Kramer mengidap kanker dan akan segera meninggal. John menyaksikan manusia menghabiskan waktu hidupnya dengan sia-sia membuatnya memutuskan untuk ‘mengajarkan’ para korbannya agar lebih menghargai hidup mereka jika mereka berhasil bertahan dari ‘permainan’ yang ia buat khusus mereka. Dan caranya ‘mendidik’ para korbannya adalah dengan menempatkan mereka berada dekat dengan kematian. Dan disitulah akan dilihat seberapa besar seseorang akan menghargai hidupnya dengan berusaha mempertahankan hidupnya.
Beberapa Filosofi Jigsaw yang juga adalah kutipan di dalam filmnya adalah sebagai berikut:
- LIVE OR DIE. MAKE YOUR CHOICE.
- WHAT IS THE CURE FOR A CANCER.
- MOST PEOPLE ARE SO UNGRATEFUL TO BE ALIVE.
- YOU’RE ALWAYS BEING TESTED.
- SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST NO LONGER APPLIES.

I know converting a lossy XVID to a DVD is not the best way to go, but that’s what I have to deal with. I personally put all of my XVIDs onto a USB flash drive and stick it into the USB port on my Philips DVP5990 standalone, but I have a ton of XVIDs I want to share with friends who don’t have an XVID player. I normally use NeroVision, but it has horrible quality and choppy playback from PAL to NTSC conversion.
So far the easiest way I have found to do this was to use HCEnc using FAVC as the front end. For audio I just retained the AC3 audio that was already in the XVID. For the HC Options I used the Quality preset, 2 Pass VBR, and changed the CPU Core from HC Built In to MultiCoreEnc Number 4. I didn’t touch anything in Advanced Scripting and used the default MPEG matrix. It encoded a LOT faster than NeroVision, but I would have to say that there was no real improvement in quality. The end result was pretty grainy and pixelated.
What would be the best software to use that will give me the highest image quality possible? I have a quad core CPU and 4GB of RAM, but I could care less about encoding speed. From what I’ve read, HCEnc should give me the best quality? Are there any settings I should change in FAVC, like something in Advanced Scripting or changing the Matrix?
